It’s been a hectic three weeks since “Last Chain” landed in bookstores. Dailymail.com did a huge story about the book, and I was thrilled to see that 2,600 readers chose to share the story. I headed to Nashville for a book-signing at Parnassus, an interview with NewsChannel5, an appearance before a women’s club and a visit to the Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, where I Skyped with some ele-ambassadors and visited with an audience of well-wishers and Sanctuary staff.
The highlight of that trip was meeting and re-meeting the young women who care for Billie and her besties Frieda and Liz. “We smell like elephants!” a couple of them warned when we squeezed in for a photo. No, they didn’t smell, but even if they had I would have felt privileged to have caught a whiff. Nothing wrong with Eau de Elephant!
I’ve done book-signings in Billings and Missoula, Montana — I live in Big Sky Country, which makes these natural stopping points — and last week I had a launch party at The Front, Great Falls’ most popular pub. I’m so appreciative of the dozens of friends and animal lovers who dropped by to purchase a copy, or two or three.
Follow my author site on Facebook or on Twitter, where I’ll be filing up-to-the-minute news about elephants. Every day more people are learning Billie’s story, the magic of the Sanctuary and the very obvious reasons why no elephant should have to perform in a circus.
